History of MREB

The Mississauga Real Estate Board was born in the basement of the First United Church of Port Credit.

38 real estate agents/brokers gathered in the basement of the First United Church of Port Credit on August 5, 1954 and decided that something needed to be done to organize real estate and improve relationships within it. They all agreed upon a regulatory organization located in the heart of real estate activity in Port Credit.

Harold A. Clarke was the Founding President of the then called “Port Credit Real Estate Board”, Sheff Cassan was the founding Secretary. Other Members of the sub-committee included John Roberts, Ken Hunt, G.M. Hunt, S.M. Macgregor, Greg Adamson and A. Farrington.

Subsequently the Board was renamed as the “South Peel Real Estate Board”, on December 9, 1954. Its main goal was to create and manage a database of listings that would provide information on available property called Co-op listings. Within the next 30 years, as surrounding communities expanded, the board gained over 1,800 members and grew to be the Mississauga Real Estate Board as the township became the City of Mississauga.

The Board was then moved to City Centre, a more central location, due to the development of huge areas of land up north and in the west. Thereafter, it moved to several other locations on Lakeshore and Collegeway in the city of Mississauga, prior to its current location at 3450 Ridgeway Drive #1, a move with great fanfare in 2013.

In May 1984, MREB shifted the responsibility of the MLS® system to the Toronto Real Estate Board. In doing so, all MREB members became dual members of TREB. However, the need for an MLS® system was felt by its membership, especially in tandem with neighboring board of Oakville. The need grew stronger after a data share agreement between the Toronto Real Estate Board and the Oakville-Milton District Estate Board ended.

In April 2018, the board hit another milestone by reintroducing MLS® Services after a span of over 34 years. In doing so, it fulfilled a long-standing need of its membership by acquiring MLS® access to boards, west of the city of Mississauga.

The Mississauga Real Estate Board is now part of ITSOREALESTATE, a shared MLS® system that includes 10 other boards involving the following:

  • Brantford Regional Real Estate Association (BRREA)
  • Cambridge Association of REALTORS® Inc. (CAOR)
  • Guelph and District Association of REALTORS® (GDAR)
  • Kitchener-Waterloo Association of REALTORS® (KWAR)
  • Niagara Association of REALTORS® (NAR)

  • Mississauga Real Estate Board (MREB)

ORTIS has over 10,000 members and is constantly expanding. Because of the additional exposure and lower costs to maintain and join, the Board decided to acquire this MLS® service for its membership. The group continues to work towards an expansion, inviting other boards in the province to join the movement in the hope of having a unified MLS® system across the province someday.

In July 2018, an additional 13 boards called the Ontario Collective joined ORTIS under the name “Intramatrix”. There is no username or password required to access "IntraMatrix". Users simply log in to the MLS® System, select "IntraMatrix" at the top right of their screen - this allows access to 13 additional Boards in Ontario listed below:
